TORONTO, Oct. 5, 2015 /CNW/ - CIBC (TSX: CM) (NYSE: CM) - With the country awash in a sea of pink on Sunday, October 4, 15,000 CIBC employees, family and friends joined thousands of Canadians - a total of 115,000 - to participate in the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure. This year, Team CIBC proudly raised more than $3 million to help support breast cancer research, treatment and advocacy programs.

"We are incredibly proud to support the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation and the work they do to make a difference in the lives of so many Canadians affected by breast cancer," says Christina Kramer, CIBC's Executive Vice-President and its Executive Run Sponsor. "It is the relentless dedication of Team CIBC together with thousands of Canadians that drives the tremendous fundraising and brings us closer to a future without this disease."

The recent announcement of the Stand Up To Cancer Canada-Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation Breast Cancer Dream Team, supported by CIBC, demonstrates the importance of funds raised through events like the CIBC Run for the Cure. Led by top Canadian researchers, the Dream Team will investigate new approaches to treating triple-negative breast cancer and other aggressive types of breast cancer.

"Once again, Canadians from coast to coast came together in support of our vision of creating a future without breast cancer," says Lynne Hudson, CEO of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. "The runners, walkers, donors, volunteers and staff who make the CIBC Run for the Cure possible every year are an inspiration, and they make it possible for CBCF to invest in research, education and programs that make a real difference for people experiencing breast cancer."

This year, in addition to presenting the Wall of Hope, where thousands of Canadians could contribute and share inspiring words and tributes at every Run site, online and in branches, CIBC thanked clients for their long-term support by donating $1 for every client who made an eDeposit on Client Appreciation Day on September 25.

To further showcase the far-reaching impact of fundraising, CIBC created In this Together, a compelling social video that brought to light the interconnectedness of those involved in the fight against breast cancer, and showed that by participating in the Run, individual participants can truly make a difference in the lives of many touched by this disease.

A title sponsor of the CIBC Run for the Cure for nearly 20 years, Team CIBC helped CBCF raise a total of $21.5 million this year through pledges, donations and fundraising initiatives. Team CIBC's ongoing support was also recognized by His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada this year at the company's annual Think Pink event in Toronto.
