Team CIBC rallies in support of the Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure

Shared passion unites communities from coast to coast to coast in fight against breast cancer

TORONTO, Oct. 1, 2018 /CNW/ - 15,000 CIBC (TSX: CM) (NYSE: CM) employees, families and friends hit the streets yesterday alongside Canadians across the country in support of the 27th annual Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure. CIBC raised an estimated $3 million to help advance breast cancer research, education and support programs.

For Team CIBC, giving back is personal and it comes from the heart. The bank's employees know from experience that it takes just one person to make a difference, and that great things happen when they come together around a common purpose.

"For more than two decades, Team CIBC employees, clients and Canadians have come together with one purpose to help those in their communities impacted by breast cancer," says Christina Kramer, CIBC's Senior Executive Vice-President and Executive Run Sponsor. "We are proud supporters of the Canadian Cancer Society and the incredible work that happens when we all rally together towards one cause."

Breast cancer continues to be the most commonly diagnosed cancer among Canadian women, with 1 in 8 expected to be diagnosed in their lifetime, with men accounting for one per cent of all breast cancer cases.

It's donations from passionate Canadians that lead to investments in research and progress in breast cancer prevention, detection, diagnosis, treatment and care. Thanks to fundraising and support for the Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure, the mortality rate for breast cancer patients is 44 per cent lower than at peak in the mid-1980s.

"We are deeply grateful for the outpouring of support from Team CIBC and we know their efforts over the last 22 years of our partnership have helped make a difference in the lives of those impacted by breast cancer," says Lynne Hudson, President and CEO, Canadian Cancer Society. "In Canada, it's estimated more than 26,000 people will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year. It is for these people and their families that together, CIBC and Canadians across the country, continue to fight tirelessly against this disease."

CIBC has been the title sponsor for the Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure for more than 20 years. During that time, Team CIBC has raised more than $51 million through pledges, donations and fundraising initiatives. United together by One for Change, Team CIBC continues to support people and communities when they need it most.
