10,000 CIBC employees, friends and family raised $2.7 million in the 2007 Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure
TORONTO, Oct. 1 /CNW/ - Approximately 10,000 CIBC employees, family members and friends joined 160,000 other Canadians in 53 communities from coast to coast on Sunday to walk or run in support of the fight against breast cancer. Between them, CIBC employees raised $2.7 million - or 10 per cent of the total $26.5 million in funds collected in this year's Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure. In addition, thousands of CIBC employees lent their support through organizing events, participating on Run committees and helping out on Run day. "CIBC employees have adopted the Run as one of their most strongly supported causes because they are committed to creating a future without breast cancer," said Sonia Baxendale, Senior Executive Vice President, Retail Markets, CIBC. CIBC has helped to raise more than $170 million for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure, beginning with the bank's support for the inaugural event in 1992. Sunday, September 30, 2007 marked the 16th annual Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure and CIBC's 11th year as title sponsor of this event. The 2008 event will take place on Oct. 5 next year. In addition to the bank's support for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, CIBC has committed more than $5 million in breast cancer funding directly to hospitals and research centres over the past five years. CIBC is committed to supporting causes that matter to its clients, employees and communities. We aim to make a difference in communities through corporate donations, sponsorships and the volunteer spirit of employees. With a strategic focus on youth, education and health, and employee commitment to causes including the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure, the CIBC World Markets Children's Foundation and the United Way, CIBC is investing in the social and economic development of communities across the country.
