TORONTO, Nov. 28 /CNW/ - CIBC (CM: TSX; NYSE) - On December 3rd, CIBC World Markets sales and trading employees and CIBC Wood Gundy investment advisors will donate their fees and commissions to children's charities across Canada as part of Miracle Day, an annual charity that has raised $41 million since it was conceived in Canada in 1984. The CIBC World Markets Children's Foundation is a charitable trust responsible for distributing funds raised on Miracle Day (the first Wednesday of each December) to Canadian children's charities. What is Miracle Day? CIBC World Markets Miracle Day is a one-day fundraising event that donates all fees and commissions to a variety of charitable organizations helping children. Miracle Day happens on the first Wednesday of each December during market trading hours. In Canada, CIBC World Markets Miracle Day is one of the largest one-day corporate fundraising events devoted to children's charities. When is the CIBC World Markets Miracle Day? CIBC World Markets Miracle Day is the first Wednesday of every December. This year's Miracle Day will take place on Wednesday, December 3, 2008. It occurs during stock market trading hours. How much does the CIBC World Markets Miracle Day raise? Since 1984, Miracle Day has raised more than C$190 million for children's charities. In 2007, Miracle Day raised over C$10.1 million globally. How did the CIBC World Markets Miracle Day begin? Miracle Day was conceived in 1984 by a Wood Gundy manager. The original event was called Miracle on 42nd Street, and its goal was to raise money for children's charities during the Christmas season. The first Miracle Day raised C$163,935. Since then, Miracle Day has become an important CIBC World Markets tradition. How are CIBC World Markets employees involved? Thousands of CIBC World Markets employees give their time, energy and imagination to promote and organize Miracle Day. On December 3, 2008, CIBC World Markets sales and trading staff and CIBC Wood Gundy Investment Advisors will contribute their commissions and fees to the CIBC World Markets Children's Foundation. Throughout the year, hundreds of employees also take an active role with the charities that the Foundation supports. This includes serving on boards of directors, volunteering time and talents, and offering personal donations. It started with the simple belief that by working together we could make a difference for children. It has grown into a miracle. How are CIBC World Markets and CIBC Wood Gundy clients involved? On Miracle Day, Institutional clients may request that up to 50% of the fees and commissions from their transactions be designated for a specific Canadian children's charity that complies with the Donation Guidelines.
