CIBC announces $100,000 contribution to assist victims of Japanese earthquake

CIBC branches will also collect donations for the Red Cross

TORONTO, March 12 /CNW/ - CIBC announced today it is donating $100,000 to the Red Cross to help relief efforts following the earthquake and subsequent tsunami in Japan.

CIBC is directing its donation to the Red Cross to support recovery efforts as well as provide shelter, food and clothing for residents forced out of their homes.

CIBC's branches across the country will also be joining in the relief effort by collecting donations for the Red Cross.

"The people of Japan need our help and assistance as they recover from this disaster," said Gerry McCaughey, President and CEO of CIBC. "We are joining our clients and employees as well as others around the world in supporting the relief efforts to provide for the needs of so many who have been affected by the earthquake."
