$15,000 donation to the Kelowna Family Y expansion project to support increased program participation
KELOWNA, BC, April 20 /CNW/ - Today, local CIBC branch manager David Knapp and his staff are celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the CIBC branch on 328 Bernard Avenue in Kelowna with an Open House from 1:30 - 3:00. Guests of the branch can enjoy cake, coffee and refreshments and at 2:00pm, CIBC will present a $15,000 donation to the Kelowna Family YMCA-YWCA.
"CIBC is committed to supporting causes that matter to our clients, our employees and our communities. We aim to make a difference in communities through corporate donations supporting initiatives like the Kelowna Family Y expansion project that will allow them to increase the capacity of people they can support," said Mike Stevenson Senior Vice-President, Western Canada. "We are committed to investing in the social and economic development of communities, like Kelowna, across the country".
"We are incredibly grateful to CIBC for this wonderful gift to the Kelowna Family Y Capital Expansion Project," said Ron Stewardson, Board President of the YMCA-YWCA of the Central Okanagan. "This level of support says a lot about CIBC and their investment in the lives of kids, families and adults from our community. It's so nice to see a major corporation show genuine care and commitment to the health and wellbeing of Kelowna residents. Congratulations on your 100th year milestone!"
The Kelowna Family YMCA-YWCA serves the health and wellness needs of more than 20,000 people. Over the past five years participation in programs has grown by 62%, and current facilities have reached their maximum potential. This expansion program will allow the Kelowna Family Y to add 18,000 square feet to accommodate a gymnasium, youth centre, child and family centre, walking/running rack and a preventative health and wellness centre.
"For 100 years, we have been helping our clients in Kelowna meet their financial needs and achieve what matters to them," added Stevenson. "Recognizing that every client is unique, we are proud of our advice and customized solutions that are tailored to meet our clients' individual goals. We look forward to serving our clients in this neighborhood for many more years to come."
Branch history
The branch operated out of a small temporary structure for a few years until a two-storey brick building opened at 328 Bernard Avenue around 1914. The building was replaced with a new one in 1962. An expanded branch, the current one, opened around 1986. The 1962 building was incorporated into the larger branch.
