"In this Together" calls on Canadians to sign up for #CIBCRunfortheCure

Mini-documentary delivers emotional punch as women share their stories and why they participate in the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure

TORONTO, Sept. 9, 2015 /CNW/ - CIBC (TSX: CM) (NYSE: CM) - Four women. Five filmmakers. A packed theatre filled with breast cancer survivors and those touched by cancer. In CIBC's powerful new social video "In this Together," Run participants discover the true impact of their participation in the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure.

"This mini-documentary reminds us that by participating in the CIBC Run for the Cure we are making a real impact," says Ann Weiss, one of the five filmmakers and a CIBC employee, who first participated in the CIBC Run for the Cure in 1993, eight years before her own diagnosis of breast cancer. "After being diagnosed myself, the CIBC Run for the Cure has taken on even more meaning for me. I know that since my diagnosis, research has led to new treatments, which are saving lives. So many of us wouldn't be here today if it weren't for the money raised each year from this event."

The film features four women who share their story of why they participate in the CIBC Run for the Cure. They were then invited to a theatre for a special screening of the film, where in a revealing twist they realized that the impact of their participation extends far beyond their personal reasons to a much-wider community of women and men, daughters and sons who have been affected by breast cancer.

"If it's been a while since you've participated in the CIBC Run for the Cure, we encourage you to register or donate because our work is not yet done," says Christina Kramer, CIBC's Executive Vice President and Executive Run Sponsor. "For the 25,000 women and 200 men in Canada expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer this year alone, and the many Canadians who live in hope that their cancer won't return, I can assure you that your participation means everything."

Ahead of this year's CIBC Run for the Cure on Sunday, October 4, Canadians can post messages of inspiration and honour loved ones affected by breast cancer on the Wall of Hope, presented by CIBC, in branches, online and at every Run site. For a suggested donation of $2 Canadians are invited to post a message on a dedicated "Wall of Hope" at their local CIBC branch. As a token of appreciation, those making donations of $5 or more will receive two Hope bracelets - one to wear and one to share. All proceeds go to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation

This month, CIBC's annual Think Pink Week will be held from Sept. 14 to 18 at branches across Canada, with employees engaged in fundraising activities to support breast cancer research and awareness. All funds raised will directly support the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
